A Great Maui 3 hour Adventure
If you have not yet made it up to the Waihe’e Ridge trail, it’s a must do here on Maui. There are many different view points along the whole trail and the best view will just depend on which way the clouds are coming in. On a clear day, hikers are able to see right down toward Kahului and all the way up to the top of Haleakalā.
The DNLR (Department of Land and Natural Resources) has just completed a $122,000 trail renovation, which included the installation of two viewing platforms, drainage for wet areas, and reduction of slick areas throughout the trail
This 2.5 mile loop to the top does offer a bit of a challenge with its 1,500 foot elevation gain. But it’s a great hike to take your time and enjoy all the views. Most hikers plan for about three hours to complete the hike and it’s a good idea to bring water and wear sunscreen. Most days are cool but if the clouds clear in the afternoon, it can get warm.
Wild Plant Life
Because the area is so lush and green, there are many wildflowers and plant life all around the trail. The winding road to to the top offers all types of landscapes including dense forest, steep ridge stairs, and even a lookout with a waterfall view.
